Germany Hosts First Congress of International Kurdish Language Federation

The first congress of the International Kurdish Language Federation opened in Düsseldorf, Germany, on Saturday under the guidance of President Masoud Barzani and with the support of Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, bringing together educators, academics, and political representatives committed to promoting the Kurdish language worldwide.

The event is attended by Shifa Barzani, General Supervisor of the Kurdistani Diaspora Confederation (KDC).

Organized by the International Kurdish Language Federation under the umbrella of the KDC, the congress focuses on preserving and promoting the Kurdish mother tongue among Kurdish communities living abroad.

With direct support from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), approximately 3,000 Kurdish students are currently enrolled in 35 Kurdish-language schools across various countries. The confederation also continues to support numerous other schools worldwide, with the goal of ensuring that every Kurdish child in the diaspora has access to education in their mother tongue.

Federation established in 2024

Established in 2024 under the umbrella of the Kurdistani Diaspora Confederation, the International Kurdish Language Federation has since focused on promoting Kurdish-language education and preserving the mother tongue among Kurdish communities abroad.

The inaugural congress has brought together 120 federation members, including prominent teachers, linguistics experts, and academic figures from both the Kurdistan Region and abroad.

Representatives of Kurdish political parties, German members of parliament, political dignitaries, and delegates from 35 Kurdish-language schools around the world are also participating in the gathering.

The congress is expected to strengthen international cooperation in Kurdish-language education while advancing efforts to preserve and promote the language for future generations of Kurds living across the diaspora.
