A joint economic forum between the Kurdistan Region and the Region of Murcia in Spain was held with the participation of senior government officials and representatives from 95 companies from both sides. The event aimed to strengthen economic relations and create new business opportunities.

The forum took place on Monday, June 29, 2026, and was attended by Luis Alberto Marín González, Murcia’s Minister of Business and Commerce, Dr. Mohammed Shukri, Chairman of the Kurdistan Board of Investment, Darawan Haji Hamid, the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Representative in Spain, along with an official government delegation and representatives of 65 Spanish companies and 30 companies from the Kurdistan Region.

During the event, following the welcoming remarks by the KRG Representative in Spain, Murcia’s Minister of Business and Commerce expressed his ministry’s full support for expanding joint cooperation with the Kurdistan Region. In turn, the Chairman of the Kurdistan Board of Investment highlighted the various incentives and opportunities that the Kurdistan Regional Government offers to foreign companies as part of its efforts to diversify the region’s economy.

As part of the forum, several panel discussions and two presentations were delivered on the commercial and investment potential of both regions. This was followed by business-to-business (B2B) meetings between participating companies, during which a number of commercial agreements and memoranda of understanding were signed. These are expected to create new employment opportunities, particularly for young people.

The forum concluded with remarks by the Chairman of the Kurdistan Board of Investment, who thanked the Kurdistan Regional Government Representation in Spain and the INFO Murcia Institute for organizing the event. Both sides also agreed to hold a similar forum in the Kurdistan Region in November this year, with the participation of Murcia’s Minister of Business and Commerce and Spanish investors.
