The news website L’essentiel, a key source for major news in Luxembourg and globally, has published a special report detailing a solemn ceremony held to commemorate the victims and survivors of the Yazidi genocide.
According to the report, the event took place yesterday, Tuesday, in the capital of Luxembourg, serving as a tribute to the individuals who fell victim to the brutality of ISIS terrorists in August 2014.
As noted by L’essentiel, the event was organized by theKurdistan Diaspora Centre- Luxembourg and the organisation CID Fraen an Gender, with the support of the country’s Ministries of Equality and Culture.
The initiative aimed to foster a climate of solidarity with the Yazidi Kurdish people, particularly the women and children who were subjected to atrocities such as murder, abduction, and slavery.
One of the most poignant aspects highlighted by the website was the presence of a survivor of the Sinjar massacre.
Now residing in France, she moved the attendees by recounting her harrowing personal story, including the loss of her husband.
L’essentiel emphasised that such living testimonies serve as a vital reminder of the scale of the human tragedy and the remarkable resilience of the survivors.
In its report, L’essentiel also provided historical context, noting that the Yazidi genocide was an organised attempt by ISIS to eradicate this Kurdish community.
The website recalled that the Parliament of Luxembourg, by unanimous vote in November 2022, officially recognised these crimes as genocide—following similar stances taken by the United Nations and various other nations.
