The number of refugee deportations from Germany in the first half of 2026 has seen a decline compared to the same period last year, although the figures remain higher than those recorded in years prior to 2025.
According to data from the German Federal Ministry of the Interior, a total of 9,663 refugees were deported from Germany between the beginning of January and the end of June 2026.
This information was disclosed by the Ministry in response to a parliamentary inquiry from Leif-Erik Holm, a deputy for the right-wing party “Alternative for Germany” (AfD), and was obtained by the German press agency (DPA).
During the same period in 2025, the number of deportations exceeded 11,800, indicating a significant decrease in the first half of this year.
However, when compared to the first half of 2024, when approximately 9,500 refugees were deported, the figures for 2026 remain slightly higher.
In recent years, the number of deportations from Germany has consistently increased.
In 2025, approximately 22,800 refugees were deported; in 2024, the figure exceeded 20,000; in 2023, it was about 16,400; and in 2022, approximately 13,000 people were sent back to their home countries.
Additionally, during the first half of this year, 9,276 refugees left Germany voluntarily to return to their home countries, receiving assistance under the joint REAG/GARP program supported by the federal and state governments.
