Historic Match: Amedspor Takes on Trabzonspor Tonight

The night that sports fans in Northern Kurdistan (south-eastern Turkey) have been waiting for has finally arrived. Tonight, the Amed Stadium will be the stage for one of the most historic clashes in the Turkish Super Lig, as Amedspor hosts a tough test against a star-studded Trabzonspor on their home turf and in front of their devoted fans.

Scheduled for 21:30 tonight, August 31, 2026, Amedspor, the sole representative of the city of Amed in the premier league, will face Trabzonspor in the third week of the season.
This match is about more than just three league points; it marks the first time the grounds of Amed will welcome a group of global football stars playing for the visiting team.

Chief among them are Egyptian star Mohamed Salah, Brazilian midfielder Fabinho, and former Manchester United and Cameroon national team goalkeeper Andre Onana.

The immense significance of this match has generated unprecedented demand for tickets. In response to overwhelming pressure from fans, Amedspor decided last night at 21:30 to release an additional 800 tickets into the market, ensuring that as many supporters as possible can witness this historic moment.

Amedspor, having played two matches in the league so far, holds one win and one loss, entering this sporting battle with 3 points.

This fixture is one of two matches that will conclude the third week of the Super-Lig, alongside the clash between Beşiktaş and Çorum.

The story of Amedspor reaching this stage is a journey filled with both obstacles and triumphs. Founded in 1972, with the colours red, green, and white symbolising its identity, the club initially started in amateur leagues under the name Melik Ahmet Turam Spor.

In 1990, it became municipality-owned and its name was changed to Diyarbakır Metropolitan Belediyespor. However, the major turning point occurred in 2014 when the club officially adopted the name Amedspor.

Over the past three years, Amedspor has achieved a rare and remarkable record. In the 2023–2024 season, they became champions of the third division.
The following year, in the 2024–2025 season, they conquered the top of the first division. In the 2025–2026 season, they took a historic leap by reaching Turkey’s top flight, the Super-Lig.
Today, this club represents the sporting dreams of a nation competing at the highest level of football.
