KDC Prepares for Flag Day Festival in Netherlands

The Kurdistani Diaspora Federation (KDC), in cooperation with its member organizations, has begun intensive preparations to host a large-scale festival celebrating Kurdistan Flag Day on December 19th. The event aims to bring together generations of the Kurdish diaspora and promote national identity abroad.

This festival is regarded as an important opportunity for Kurds to gather and strengthen cultural ties in the diaspora. Through various artistic and civic segments, the event seeks to familiarize the new and young generation in the Netherlands with their authentic history and culture, uniting generations around a shared identity.

As part of the participation of artistic centers, the “Koma Armanc” folk dance group has begun rehearsals as one of the main participants. Through traditional Kurdish dance performances, the group aims to introduce the richness and beauty of Kurdish heritage to the audience and the broader European society.

The organizers of the festival emphasize that the collaborative work of Kurdish organizations in the Netherlands demonstrates unity and solidarity in serving the national and cultural cause, ensuring that December 19th becomes a memorable and magnificent celebration. The complete festival agenda, along with the names of all participating groups and guests, is scheduled to be announced in the coming days.

In 2004, the Kurdistan Parliament designated December 17th as Kurdistan Flag Day, marking the date in 1945 when the flag was first hoisted during the Republic of Kurdistan in Mahabad. Every year, both inside Kurdistan and particularly across European countries and the diaspora, the Kurdish community organizes mass gatherings, meetings, and festivals around this date to keep their national identity alive among foreign societies through their flag.
