The municipality of Lyon, France, has decided to open a temporary housing center for underage migrants who have been living in tents under poor conditions for months.
Located in the former “Fafvr” building, the center will accommodate 130 migrants.
Beyond providing shelter, the facility will offer health, social, and legal services to support the migrants while they await a court ruling on their age to determine if they qualify for child protection.
Despite this initiative, civil society organisations have expressed deep concern over the fate of other migrants in the region.
With several tent settlements facing the threat of closure, dozens of migrants risk homelessness.
This looming displacement threatens to place them in an extremely difficult situation, particularly with the winter season approaching.
