The Kurdistan Diaspora Confederation has issued a firm and unequivocal statement regarding the Iraqi government’s suspension of public servant salaries in the Kurdistan Region and its ongoing silence on the matter.
The Kurdistan Diaspora Confederation strongly condemns and categorically rejects the chauvinistic stance of the Iraqi government. We stand in full defence of the economic and civil rights of the people of the Kurdistan Region. This act by the Iraqi government constitutes a blatant violation of the constitutional rights of Kurdistan Region employees and is in direct contradiction to international human rights standards, the Iraqi Constitution, and internal Iraqi agreements.
The government’s inaction and silence amount to nothing less than economic genocide against the people of Kurdistan. In response, we issue the following urgent demands to both the Iraqi government and the international community:
1. The Iraqi government must honor its financial obligations to the Kurdistan Regional Government and fully implement the Budget Law without discrimination or delay.
2. We call on the international community, the United Nations, and all human rights organizations to take a clear and active stance against this policy of marginalization and economic pressure targeting the Kurdistan Region.
3. We urge political parties, civil organizations, journalists, academics, and intellectuals in the Kurdistan Region not to remain silent in the face of this flagrant injustice.
4. We appeal to embassies and consulates operating in the Kurdistan Region to recognize this serious constitutional breach and take a firm, principled position.
As the Kurdistan Diaspora Confederation, we reaffirm our unwavering support for our homeland, our national flag, and the legitimate rights of the Kurdish people in Southern Kurdistan (the Kurdistan Region of Iraq). We advocate for resolving disputes through dialogue, mutual respect, and peaceful negotiation.
In conclusion, we emphasize that a dignified life and the right to receive earned salaries are fundamental human rights. These must never be politicized or manipulated for electoral purposes.
Long live Kurdistan and the Kurdish people.
Dr Ismail Kamil
President of the Kurdistan Diaspora Confederation
