Calgary, January 20, 2025 — The Kurdistani Diaspora – Calgary Centre, alongside other community groups, held a peaceful demonstration in downtown Calgary, followed by a march to the U.S. Consulate, calling for urgent international action to protect Kurdish civilians in Rojava.
Organizers delivered a letter to the U.S. Consulate highlighting the Kurds’ critical role in defeating ISIS and warning that ongoing attacks by radical armed groups threaten civilians and regional stability. Concerns were also raised about the potential release of ISIS detainees, which poses a serious global security risk.
The organizers confirmed they reached out to Canadian media outlets and called on the Government of Canada to impose sanctions on the Syrian authorities and affiliated forces responsible for failing to protect civilians, minorities, and religious and ethnic communities.
The demonstration urged Canada and its allies to stand firmly with the Kurdish people and uphold international law, human rights, and global security.
