Crisis in Rojava: Threats to Regional and Global Security

Wednesday, January 21, 2026, we met with Conservative MPs Tom Kmiec and Pat Kelly to urgently brief them on the rapidly worsening situation in Rojava.

We warned that ISIS fighters are being released from prisons and camps, posing a serious threat to regional and global security—including Canada. Extremist groups, now operating under the so-called Syrian Army, are attacking Kurds and other ethnic and religious minorities. These are the same extremist forces under new names, operating under the Damascus government led by Ahmed al-Sharaa.

Canada’s decision to lift sanctions in December 2025 was premature. Since then, attacks on civilians have intensified, international law is being violated, and Kobani is surrounded without water or electricity. We presented photos and evidence showing the reality on the ground.

We strongly called on Canada to act, restore sanctions, and protect civilians. The Kurdish community will not remain silent until justice, security, and accountability are achieved.
