Full Text of the Statement Sent to the United Nations
On behalf of the Kurdistani Diaspora Confederation, we strongly and unequivocally condemn the ongoing atrocities committed against Kurdish communities in Syria, particularly in the city of Aleppo, as well as against religious minorities such as Yazidis and Christians, who are an integral part of the Kurdish people and their identity.
These attacks are committed by the Syrian government and radical Muslim militias.
Across Syria, ethnic and religious minorities are being deliberately targeted through military assaults, forced displacement, collective punishment, and systematic human rights violations.
These crimes have had a devastating impact on women, children, and men, who continue to suffer from killings, injuries, sexual violence, abduction, psychological trauma, and the destruction of homes, schools, and places of worship.
Recent and ongoing fighting has severely affected Kurdish majority regions, including: Aleppo, particularly the neighborhoods of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh; In these areas, Kurdish civilians have been subjected to shelling, sieges, forced evacuations, and grave violations of international humanitarian law. Women, children, the elderly, and displaced families remain the primary victims.
These attacks revive the trauma of past genocides, massacres, and religious persecution. Entire communities continue to face erasure, displacement, and the loss of their ancestral lands.
The targeting of Kurdish civilians in Syria, regardless of religious affiliation, is systematic and intolerable.
We therefore call upon the United Nations to take a firm stand and clearly condemn these atrocities against Kurdish minorities in Syria.
We urge the United Nations and its Member States to:
- Condemn all crimes committed against civilians;
- Demand an immediate end to all attacks on civilian populations, with special protection for women and children;
- Guarantee unhindered humanitarian access to all affected Kurdish regions;
- Establish independent international investigations into war crimes, crimes against humanity, and acts of ethnic persecution;
- Ensure accountability for perpetrators and take concrete steps to prevent further violence.
Silence in the face of these crimes enables their continuation. The protection of Syrian minorities, women, and children is not a political choice; it is a legal and moral obligation under international law.
The Syrian people including their religious minorities such as Druze, Alawites, Yazidis, and Christians, and their ethnic minorities such as Kurds and Assyrians look to the United Nations for justice, protection, and decisive action. Now is the time for the United Nations to rise, speak out, and condemn these atrocities without hesitation.
