Kurdistani Diaspora Confederation Condemns Violent Attack on Kurdish Demonstrators in Belgium

To the Belgian public and relevant institutions,

The Kurdistani Diaspora Confederation (KDC) strongly condemns the violent attack that took place on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2025, in the city of Antwerp, Belgium, where a group of Kurdish community members were assaulted while participating in a peaceful and civil demonstration in support of Western Kurdistan.

According to available information, the attack was carried out by several Syrian Arab individuals using knives, resulting in injuries to six Kurds. The condition of two of the wounded is reported to be critical. The Kurdistani Diaspora Confederation expresses its sincere wishes for the full and speedy recovery of all those injured.

We call on the Belgian police and the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into this incident and to ensure that the perpetrators of this crime are held fully accountable. While four suspects have reportedly been arrested, we emphasize the necessity of safeguarding the security of the Kurdish community in Belgium and of taking effective measures to prevent the recurrence of such racist attacks.

At the same time, we urge the Kurdish community to remain calm, to prioritize their personal safety, and to rely exclusively on legal and lawful means. We stress that retaliation and revenge have no place in Kurdish culture. The Kurdish people have always stood for peace, stability, and the security of the countries in which they live.

The KDC calls on Kurds in the diaspora to continue their peaceful demonstrations in support of Western Kurdistan and to persist in conveying the voice of Kurdish injustice to the world through lawful and civil means.

Long live the Kurdish people.
Long live Kurdistan.
