Copa Rojava to Kick Off in Historic German Stadium

On July 26th, the city of Hanover, Germany, is set to host the Rojava Football Championship, widely known as “Copa Rojava.”
This tournament stands as the premier sporting competition for Kurdish football teams in the diaspora, with a large turnout of the Kurdish community expected to attend the matches.

This year’s Copa Rojava will feature four prominent teams representing Rojava (Western Kurdistan): Kobani, Afrin, Hasakah, and Qamishlo.

Regarding the preparations for this sports carnival, Ahmed Hassan, a member of the Copa Rojava organizing committee, emphasized that building on the success of previous years, the committee has meticulously finalized all arrangements to host the matches and welcome fans at a high organizational level.

The matches will be held at the historic SV Arminia stadium in Hanover, a venue with over 100 years of history, capable of accommodating 1,000 spectators eager to support their respective teams.

A highlight of this year’s tournament—and a point of interest for media and observers—is the exclusive focus on young talent.
Organisers are prioritising youth development over veteran players, aiming to provide a platform for up-and-coming athletes.
These young participants bring high technical proficiency and precision to the pitch, promising a faster and more competitive tournament.

The tournament is structured as an intensive one-day event, with matches scheduled to run from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
To ensure fairness and professionalism, a mixed officiating team consisting of both German and Kurdish referees will oversee the matches. Furthermore, a press conference is scheduled for the day before the opening whistle to provide full details and further promote the visibility of Copa Rojava.
