Zaza Kalashov, President of the Kurdish Association of Georgia (Ronahi) and a board member of the Kurdistani Diaspora Confederation (KDC), provided exclusive details to the KDC’s official website regarding a dignified ceremony held to commemorate the victims of the Sinjar tragedy.
The President of the Kurdish Association of Georgia announced that on Sunday, in collaboration with the Kurdistani Diaspora Confederation and the Ronahi Association, a memorial ceremony was held at the “Caucasus House” hall in Tbilisi to honor the pure souls of the victims of the August 3, 2014, Yazidi genocide.
Kalashov noted that the ceremony saw broad participation from members of the Kurdish diaspora, the Yazidi community, youth, and prominent social figures. He explained that the event began with a minute of silence for the victims, followed by several speeches. These addresses shed light on the tragic dimensions of the massacre, the uncertain fate of those still missing, and the challenges that continue to plague the survivors to this day.
Zaza Kalashov further emphasized that the ceremony highlighted the historical responsibility of the international community to ensure justice and prevent the recurrence of such crimes against humanity. Attendees reaffirmed their deep solidarity with the Yazidi people, stressing that preserving the memory of this tragedy and conveying the truth to future generations is a shared national and humanitarian duty.
Kalashov expressed his gratitude to all the guests and individuals who participated in honoring the memory of the innocent victims of the genocide and expressed his hope that the memory of the August 3, 2014, martyrs would always remain alive.
The Yazidi genocide began on August 3, 2014, when militants of the terrorist organization ISIS attacked the Sinjar district and its surrounding areas. In that assault, thousands of Yazidi civilians were brutally massacred, and thousands of women and children were abducted. This crime has been internationally recognized as genocide. Every year, in Kurdistan and across the diaspora, the Kurdish community holds various activities to honour the victims and demand justice.
