Shifa Barzani Speaks at Kobani Film Festival in Germany

The General Supervisor of the Kurdistani Diaspora at the Barzani Headquarters Shifa Barzabi, attended the Kobani International Film Festival in Germany, where she delivered a keynote address.

Today, Friday, Mr. Shifa Barzani, participated in the 7th edition of the Kobani International Film Festival in Gelsenkirchen, Germany.

Delivering a speech on the opening day of the festival, Shifa Barzani emphasized the profound importance of cinema, stating, “Film is not merely art; it is a vital tool for preserving the history, identity, and culture of nations.”

She pointed out that any nation possessing a strong cinematic presence can successfully protect its history and identity while introducing them to the world.

The General Supervisor of the Kurdistani Diaspora also stressed that cinema must remain free from ideological constraints, dedicated solely to serving art and the greater interests of the Kurdish people and Kurdistan.

In another segment of her address, she urged the attendees—and indeed every Kurd, whether a worker, filmmaker, doctor, or engineer—to work tirelessly for the just cause of Kurdistan. She called on them to form a powerful lobby to promote and protect their people. Characterizing lobbying as an essential mission, she highlighted the necessity for every individual to actively engage in this effort.

It is worth noting that the Kobani International Film Festival focuses on independent cinema and diverse global films, placing special emphasis on communities that represent minorities. The festival’s activities include film screenings, panel discussions, and cultural exchanges.
