A Kurdish resident of Germany is running as a candidate on the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) list in the country’s local elections for the position of mayor in the town of Dittnerode, located in the state of Lower Saxony.
Salar Mala Khidir Mirza, better known as “Salar Kirkuki,” told the Kurdistani Diaspora Confederation (KDC) website that at the request of the ruling Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party, he has been nominated for the mayorship of Dittnerode as the number one candidate on their list.
The Kurdish candidate also pointed out that he has been engaged in civil and political activism in the city for decades, serving the Kurdish diaspora and all other communities without discrimination.
Salar Kirkuki added that, as a Kurd, he has always actively participated in Kurdish national issues.
“Just as my father was a Peshmerga in both the September (Aylul) and Gulan revolutions, and I myself was a Peshmerga for a time, ever since I have lived in Germany, I have always worked for the Kurdish diaspora with the spirit of a Peshmerga.
As I have been in the past, I will be at the service of the Kurdish diaspora even more in the future,” he said.
It is worth mentioning that the local elections in this German state are scheduled to take place on September 13, 2026.
