Under the supervision of the President of the Kurdistani Diaspora Confederation (KDC), a panel was organized to encourage the participation of Kurds residing in Sweden in the country’s parliamentary elections. Several Kurdish candidates running on the lists of different Swedish political parties also took part in the event.
On Saturday, August 29, 2026, in Stockholm, a discussion panel was held under the supervision of Ismail Kamil, President of the Kurdistani Diaspora Confederation, with the aim of introducing and supporting Kurdish candidates participating in Sweden’s elections.
The gathering began with remarks by the President of the Confederation, while the program was moderated by Sharmin Bozarslan, Vice President of the Kurdistani Diaspora Confederation.
Among those attending the panel were Kovan Amidi, a member of the Executive Committee; Rojvan Yeshil, Secretary of the Federation of Kurdistani Associations; Evin Shingali, President of the Kurdish Diaspora Women’s Association; as well as a number of association members and Kurdish activists.
In his remarks, Ismail Kamil emphasized the importance of Kurdish participation in Sweden’s electoral process. He also referred to the history of the parliamentary representatives’ cooperation network established to strengthen relations between Sweden and the Kurdistan Region.
The President of the Confederation also reaffirmed KDC’s support for Kurdish participation in the political and social life of the societies in which they live.
In another part of the program, researcher Ali Abdulzada presented his research on youth participation in politics.
The Kurdish candidates for the Swedish Parliament then introduced themselves and presented their political programs, outlining the steps and initiatives they intend to pursue if elected. They also responded to questions from participants.
The participating Kurdish candidates were:
- Kadir Kadirga — Social Democratic Party, Stockholm — No. 5 on the list
- Hawar Asayish — Left Party, Västmanland — No. 1 on the list
- Nujin Alajabek — Left Party, Stockholm — No. 9 on the list
- Sarwan Bozarslan — Green Party, Stockholm — No. 8 on the list
- Lanja Sharif — Liberal Party, Jönköping — No. 3 on the list
- Shwan Karim — Green Party, Stockholm — No. 26 on the list
The panel was held as part of the Kurdistani Diaspora Confederation’s ongoing efforts to encourage political participation among Kurds in the diaspora and to highlight the voice, potential, and contributions of the Kurdish community in Sweden.
