The 10th Kurdish Film and Arts Festival was held over four days in New York City. This year, more than 300 films from Kurdistan and the Kurdistani diaspora were submitted to the festival, of which 30 films were selected for screening as part of the festival’s four-day programme.
Mr. Kurd, Head of the International Relations Office of the Kurdistani Diaspora Confederation, met with Khayal Qartal, the festival’s director, as well as a number of Kurdish and international filmmakers, artists, and participants. They discussed the importance of Kurdish cinema and the arts, as well as the significance of holding such a festival in a major international city like New York.
Festival organisers expressed their appreciation and gratitude for the moral support provided by the Kurdistani Diaspora Confederation.
In addition to showcasing cinematic productions, the festival provided an important opportunity to promote and celebrate the identity and culture of Kurdistan, while using the language of art to draw the attention of international public opinion—particularly in the United States—to the aspirations and interests of the people of Kurdistan.
Kurdish traditional dancing and celebrations, alongside displays of traditional Kurdish clothing, the flag, and the map of Kurdistan, offered attendees a vivid representation of this rich cultural identity.
