Amsterdam: Koma Yek Welat Presents a Kurdish Dance Performance

With a large turnout from the Kurdish diaspora in the Netherlands, a special gathering for Kurdish women was held, during which the Koma Yek Welat dance group drew the audience’s attention to the richness of Kurdistan’s folkloric heritage through artistic performances and traditional Kurdish dances.

On 11 October 2026, the city of Amsterdam hosted a public event celebrating Kurdish women. As part of the programme, members of the Koma Yek Welat dance group, dressed in traditional Kurdish attire, performed a series of folkloric dances representing different regions of Kurdistan.

The group’s performances, delivered with great energy and in an authentic folkloric style, created an enthusiastic atmosphere among the attendees. Participants warmly welcomed the dancers’ movements and artistic displays, which expressed the authenticity and historical depth of Kurdish cultural heritage.

The Kurdish diaspora in Europe, particularly in the Netherlands, has maintained an active civic and cultural presence since the final decades of the last century and has continued to work to preserve its national identity in the face of the risk of assimilation into modern society.

In this context, women’s organisations and folkloric groups serve as bridges connecting different generations. Kurdish traditional dancing and national dress at public events are therefore regarded as more than artistic performances; they are also considered effective tools of cultural diplomacy and important means of preserving the Kurdish language, collective memory, and national identity among communities living abroad.
