KDC Meets Finland’s Foreign Ministry Representative

In a meeting with a representative of the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the Kurdistani Diaspora Confederation – Finland conveyed the concerns and demands of the Kurdish diaspora regarding the situation in the Middle East and the ongoing attacks on the Kurdistan Region.

Shaswar Bilal, Head of Relations for the Kurdistani Diaspora Confederation – Finland, held a meeting with Timo Ristolainen, a member of the Middle East Unit at the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
The meeting was also attended by Sirwan Sabir, Sulaiman Sulaiman, and Karwan Jamil, members of the Executive Board of the Kurdistani Diaspora Confederation – Finland.

Discussions focused on developing relations between Finland and the Kurdistan Region, the latest regional developments, and the recent attacks targeting the Kurdistan Region.

In its formal request, the Kurdistani Diaspora Confederation – Finland expressed deep concern over the drone and missile strikes on the Kurdistan Region, particularly those targeting civilian areas.

The submitted document highlighted that since the onset of regional tensions, more than 1,000 drone and missile attacks have been launched against the Kurdistan Region, resulting in numerous casualties, including martyrs and injured civilians.

The Confederation urged the Finnish government to explicitly condemn these unjustified attacks on the Kurdistan Region and to provide greater support for maintaining peace and stability in the area.

It was emphasized that the Kurdistan Region plays a crucial role in the stability of the Middle East and has stood firmly alongside the international coalition in the global fight against terrorism during challenging times.

In another segment of the meeting, the delegation requested the expansion of diplomatic relations between Finland and the Kurdistan Region, suggesting the opening of an official Finnish representation in the Region.

They also called for the development of commercial and social ties, encouraging Finnish companies and investors to explore investment opportunities in Kurdistan.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the representative from the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs expressed the positive stance of the Finnish government regarding its support for a stable Middle East.

He noted that Finland condemns all attacks on countries in the region, including the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. Furthermore, he clarified that the Finnish government views trade relations positively and takes the voice of the Kurdish diaspora in Finland very seriously.

The Kurdistani Diaspora Confederation – Finland concluded by thanking the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs for listening to the concerns of the Kurdish diaspora and accepting their requests.
