The International Kurdish Language Federation to Hold Its First Congress in Germany

Under the supervision of Shafa Barzani, General Supervisor of the Kurdistani Diaspora Confederation (KDC) and Head of the Kurdistan Affairs Department at the Barzani Headquarters, the International Kurdish Language Federation is set to hold its first official congress on June 27, 2026, in Düsseldorf, Germany.

The congress will be held under the slogan, “Our Language Is the Identity of Our Kurdish Nationhood.” The event is expected to bring together representatives from 35 Kurdish schools and 120 delegates from around the world, including academics, linguists, educators, researchers, and advocates dedicated to the preservation and development of the Kurdish language.

The gathering marks a historic milestone, as it will be the first international congress of its kind to unite such a broad coalition of Kurdish language specialists and cultural figures from the diaspora. The congress aims to strengthen cooperation and coordinate efforts to preserve, promote, and further develop the Kurdish mother tongue across generations and communities worldwide.

The International Kurdish Language Federation has adopted a comprehensive strategy and a global vision for advancing the Kurdish language. While recognizing Kurdistan as the central focus of its mission, the Federation seeks to expand its activities internationally, based on the principle that wherever Kurdish communities exist, the Federation should also have an active presence.

Positioning itself as a leading international institution dedicated to the Kurdish language, the Federation aims to establish a modern and sustainable framework for linguistic development, academic collaboration, and cultural preservation. Through this initiative, it seeks to reinforce the status of the Kurdish language and strengthen its foundations in an increasingly interconnected and globalized world.
