The UK Home Office has installed eight new knife and weapon surrender bins across South and West Yorkshire in an effort to reduce violence and crime in the region.
Funded by the government and managed by the charity “Word 4 Weapons,” this initiative allows citizens to safely surrender unlicensed weapons.
According to official statistics, more than 15,000 knives and various other weapons have been collected through these bins since July 2025.
In recent years, crimes involving knives and bladed weapons have become one of the UK’s major security challenges, particularly among young people.
In addition to imposing stricter penalties for carrying weapons, the UK government has turned to alternative strategies—such as installing these surrender bins and launching awareness campaigns.
These measures are designed to encourage citizens to voluntarily give up illegal weapons without facing immediate strict legal prosecution.
